Mockup – Brudhäll colour scheme

Updated: Dec 16, 2019

Week 5

I started to read about the history, what kind of place is this and what feelings dose it awake in me. Are there any colours that they already have in use? I was thinking about the environment around it, the colours and destination.

Since I have worked at Brudhäll this summer and been taking responsibility for the marketing, even though it barely did not exist any marketing when I began. I kind of did the hole mockup in my head already then, but now in cooperation with the Branding project I´m doing for Brudhäll, I had to sit down and think it through.

So, I started with the colour red, I have been using that colour in marketing all summer, it´s the same colour as the building and the same colour of most of the boat houses in the archipelago. The red colour is kind of a signature colour for the archipelago and has been that for a long time.

I took this colour into photoshop, googled around a bit for different colour combinations and the meanings of different kinds of colours. In photoshop I then started to play around. I made up four different colour schemes with a variation of colours, I already had a quite good appreciation about what kind of colours I would like to include, which made it quite simple for me, therefore the schemes look almost the same.

I took these four and showed them to Natalie, my boss and the owner of Brudhäll, we sat down together I explained a bit about the colours my thoughts and together we decided on six different colours for Brudhäll. Our thoughts about the different colours, except red:

Light blue: The foundation of the house is this colour, it reflects the archipelago and sky. Also, many of our photos that we use for marketing has a light blue colour. The light blue colour is associated with health, healing, tranquillity, understanding, and softness.

Black: It´s practically a “have to” in the colour palette, almost all the text we write is in black and it makes the text easy for the eyes to read.

Beige: We used a beige paper colour for our e menus this summer, it worked out well and we have decided to work more with this colour since it´s a more natural one than the plain white.

White: Even though we decided on the beige, we will still use the white one for websites and flyers, white is also a good basic colour for the brands colour scheme.

Dark blue: The water. We needed one more, darker colour added to the palette, the dark blue felt like the right option. The blue colour is associated depth and stability, it symbolizes trust, loyalty, intelligence, faith, truth and heaven. For Brudhäll this colour represents the Åland Ilands and the Swedish speaking Finns.

The colour palette now looks like this.
